| | New generation Samurai offers even more benefits and is now available from Axair Climate

The latest generation of Samurai water chillers from Hitachi incorporates a host of new features that combine enhanced performance with reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions, as well as lower cost of ownership.
Recognising that chillers run at part load for most of the year, particular attention has been paid to part-load efficiencies. Samurai chillers use a sliding valve on the compressor circuit, combined with sophisticated controls, to achieve continuous capacity control to match the required cooling capacity very accurately. Furthermore, it enables the chiller to provide that control on the basis of outlet water temperature rather than inlet temperature, providing far more precise matching of water temperature to cooling load.
The result is a much higher coefficient of performance (COP) at part-load, providing higher efficiencies all year round and lower cost of ownership for the end user.

Historically, this level of modulation was usually achieved through inverter control of the compressor, but in some cases this has led to problems with harmonics. To avoid these potential issues, Samurai chillers modulate the compressors on the basis of oil pressure.
Additional features of the Samurai range include use of more efficient DC fan motors, enhanced oil separation in the compressors, soft-start to reduce peak electrical loads, low refrigerant volumes and low minimum water requirements to reduce numbers of compressor stops and starts.
Samurai chillers retain their compact design with a low footprint, as well as the low noise and vibration characteristics that eliminate the need for additional acoustic treatment in the vast majority of installations.
